Praxis Institute is a division of the BioPraxis Group dedicated to the research and development of new drugs.
The pioneering and most advanced project underway at Praxis Institute is the development of PX070101, an epidermal growth factor that would be indicated for improving the healing process of chronic diabetic foot ulcers, classified as severe due to their extent or depth. At present, there is no approved medical treatment for the management of ulcers of this kind.
It must be stressed that diabetic foot ulcers are a very important sociosanitary problem. The condition affects a large number of patients due to the high prevalence of diabetes (approximately 7.5% of the population in Spain), and it is estimated that 40-50% of all diabetics will suffer such an ulcer of the limbs at some point in their life. Furthermore, these ulcers are very damaging to the patient’s quality of life - not only in physical and health terms, but also as regards the psychological, occupational and social conditions of the affected individual. Moreover, the presence of a limb ulcer poses a risk of serious complications that may even prove life-threatening, and which often require limb amputation as the sole management option.

PX070101 is already in the clinical phase of development and has yielded promising results in preliminary studies. If the development process eventually concludes satisfactorily, the product could become available on the European market in the next few years.
